Walking the Boundaries

Stepping Out!
To celebrate the Centenary of Guiding, Oxfordshire Guiding are walking the Big Walk: around the county boundary and up through the centre of the county. The path follows the 'Seven Shires Way' (A copy of the book 'The Seven Shires Way: A 234 Mile Walk Around the County Boundary of Oxfordshire Using Public Rights of Way' by Elaine Steane is available for each division. The author has kindly waived the copyright so copies of individual routes can be made within each division for distribution). The route also runs through the centre of the county via the Thames Path and the Oxford Canal to pass through all Guiding Divisions in Oxfordshire. Route maps are available below.

Launch
A launch Walk will be taking place on Sunday 4th October, starting at 11.00a.m in Thame. Rendezvous point to follow! All members of girlguiding in Oxfordshire are invited to join in.

Each unit can organise walks anywhere on the boundary – why not travel to a neighbouring Division and walk somewhere new? Or why not walk as a District, or join with another unit from the other side of the County? You can run, stroll, ramble, dress in fancy dress, get sponsorship, walk backwards, take a night hike or any other idea. Older members might like to tackle the whole route (approximately 300 miles); you have 12 months to complete your walk.

Badges
Badges are available at a cost of 60p to all members who complete the minimum distance (Rainbows 3 miles/ Brownies 5 miles/ Guides 10 miles/ Senior Section and adult members 15 miles). When you have walked the route, complete the form and send to the contact details shown. As walks are completed, we will update the route map.

NB: We recommend that you supplement maps from the 'Seven Shires Way' book with OS maps.
