Margaret Receives the Laurel

Well done and many congratulations to Margaret Fleetwood who received „The Laurel Award‟ at the Annual Review, one of the highest awards to be achieved by anyone connected with the Girlguiding movement.

Margaret has been a loyal, dedicated member of Girlguiding from the age of 7 when she became a Brownie. Since then she has not only been a Leader of Brownies and Guide units but in the past has also been District and Division Commissioner, as well as County Secretary. For the last 5 years she has been County Chairman of Oxfordshire Trefoil Guilds and is currently chairman of the Management Committee of Jubilee House. This is a very brief outline of all the many appointments that Margaret has held over the years, plus she also has future appointments about to commence and so her strengths continue.

Over the years Guiding has taken Margaret to each of the 4 world centres in Switzerland, Mexico and India as well as 'Pax Lodge' in London, some of them more than once. In 1996 she journeyed to Russia taking a number of Guides from Oxfordshire to camp, and again in 1998 when she returned to Russia to encourage Guides there to join the movement.

Margaret‟s own enthusiasm for Girlguiding is infectious as we all know and her continuous commitment to the movement is truly commendable and has been rightly recognised by her receiving this award. She is a true ambassador for the guide movement.
