Rainbows was formed in 1987 for girls aged five to seven (four to seven in Northern Ireland) and has grown in popularity since, with 71 Rainbow Units in Oxfordshire alone, comprising of over 800 girls! (May 2011).
Rainbows follow a programme called the Rainbow Jigsaw, which has four parts: look, learn, laugh and love. Being a Rainbow is all about learning, developing self-confidence and building friendships. Rainbows are encouraged to learn about working together and being kind and considerate to others, and also to think about the wider world. Although Rainbows do sometimes do badges and challenges, the main focus is on having lots of fun!
Like in Brownies and Guides, girls also make a Promise shortly after they join Rainbows. The Rainbow Promise is: "I Promise that I will do my best, to love my God and to be kind and helpful."
To celebrate the 25th birthday of the Rainbows, we will be having a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in Merton Field, Christchurch on Sunday, 15th July. Look out for more information soon!
